How to configure a Plex Media server on Ubuntu

1.Enable the Plex Media Server repository

echo deb https://downloads.plex.tv/repo/deb public main | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/plexmediaserver.list
curl https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-keys/PlexSign.key | sudo apt-key add -

2. Download Plex

wget https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.13.5.5332-21ab172de/plexmediaserver_1.13.5.5332-21ab172de_amd64.deb

3. Install Plex

dpkg -i plexmediaserver_1.13.5.5332-21ab172de_amd64.deb

4. Configure a SSH tunnel

You will need create a SSH tunnel on your local machine so that you can access your Plex Server Web page as you can only access this web GUI from your local host where the server is installed.

In your putty session that connects to your remote server configure a SSH tunnel using a source port of 8888 and the destination as 127.0.0.1:32400. It will look as follows in the window above L8888 127.0.0.1:32400

5. Test

Browse to the following URL http://127.0.0.1:8888/web/
